   There are a number of ways a magician can figure it out - some variations of this trick are more sophisticated than others.

   One simple version of this trick involves the use of a Swengali deck, which is slightly tapered at one end. The magician turns the deck around before the card is reinserted, and so the chosen card is tapered in the wrong direction. The magician can then just pull the card out.
