At the start of the seventh book, Hermione & Ron go on about Harry not using magic because of the “trace.” In the third book, Hermione mentions that her birthday is in the start of september. Presumably, it can only be July/August because Harry had just celebrated his birthday. How does she manage to perform magic without being detected?

At my old school this guy had a book and I dont remember what it was called, I just remember murderous in the title and it had math magic tricks. One of them was this trick where there were 3 balloons and each balloon had different numbers and when i thought of a number the guy who had the book knew what balloon it was in or something… Anyway, anyone know of the book im talking about?
